Egyptian rice or short grain rice can be a bit tricky to prepare especially if it’s cooked the wrong way. If you are wondering how to cook Egyptian rice for perfect results, we gathered some tips to help you. No more fear of ending up with sticky, burnt or uncooked rice!
Make sure you choose high quality rice to end up with a fluffy texture and delicious results. No need to soak your rice although you should rinse it well before you start cooking.
In a non-stick pot such as Expertise Induction, melt some oil, butter or ghee on high temperature. These fats will make sure you end up with fluffy rice. Now add your ratio of rice and lower the heat to medium. You’ve got to keep stirring gently with a wooden spoon to coat all the grains with the fat. After 5 minutes of sautéing, the grains will turn opaque and will look like tiny pearls. That’s the result we are aiming for! Now season to taste.
For every cup of Egyptian rice, you will need 1½ cups of boiling water. Once your sautéed rice has reached the desired color and consistency, add water and place the lid. Lower the heat and cook for about 17 minutes.
Once your rice is perfectly cooked, remove the pot from the heat and fluff your rice with a fork. Remember you should never stir your cooked rice with a spoon otherwise you will end up with sticky results!
